We are asked throughout Advent to stay ready. For the next few weeks I invite you to reflect with me on the many forms of readiness.
I had no business being so calm this week, what with a show opening, the beginning of our run of Holiday Pops, report cards due, and medical drama involving insurance, the pharmacy, and my doctor’s office. When a sniffle started coming on late in the week I should have panicked, but I didn’t.
Instead, this week I felt peace. I recognize a smattering of quotidian graces: work completed, students counseled, relationships deepened, songs sung. And at the end of each day taken moment by moment, I sat with some Scripture and prayed.
I would tell you that the peace was overpowering if it didn’t feel so natural. It felt like coming home. I knew this was the work of God.
When Christ returns, will I know enough to run into the Divine Embrace? If I can remember how blissful the taste of that embrace is, I will.
How have you been invited to stay ready this Advent?
